My wife wants us to do a "How to make a rain barrel" class for $60. While I understand her concept (together time) and we could use one, I already know how to make one. Only problem, I have no idea where I would get a 55gal+ plastic barrel in or around Heath, OH. Of course lowes don't, nor does TSC. I don't see Main Hardware stocking anything that big. Maybe I'm lookn in the wrong places....?

$60 on a class to make a rain barrel? are you joking? there's people that do that?

take that $60 and go have a nice dinner for together time.

you could also get a trashcan and make one, you have to have an official rain barrel. there's plenty of stuff in the PVC section at lowes to make a spigot. doctor it up with some paint and you could make it look good.

the possibilities are endless

craigs list or your local squirt wash.(car wash) they get their soap and stuff in them.

Hmmmm, we did that a log time ago. We got 1 free rain barrel after the class...the one we learned to put together. There are people who sell them here in Florida at a few area. I see them on Craigslist every once in awhile. Some of the plant growers will sell them as well. Check your local nursery for them, Bro!! We love ours...plus if you have no water in the house for a bad reason...storms or broke pipes, you can use the rain barrel water to flush the toilets as well. It is manly to have a rain barrel, Bro!!!!

Lots of places to look for the big plastic barrels. I'd try a car wash or a company that manufactures something. There is one company near me that manufactures retaining wall stones as well as regular block and brick, they have a big sign on their counter in the office that they have plastic 55-gal barrels for $8 each.

I've gotten mine from carwashes and from laundrymats from the soaps.

I'm trying to build my own rain barrel project too. Right now, the project is stalled, but I will get it done, as soon as I finish my solar battery box first. The 55 gallon drum I got free. Found it while deer hunting. Must of washed inland from when the river over flooded its bank. Still, had to drag it out a mile out of the woods.
