We have that tool at work, it rests agains the leaf spring when the axle is in the truck, allowing you to torque down the crush sleeve.
 
That tool is a good idea. It works well, and would be super easy to make with scraps.

Another important point that is mentioned in the video is that you want to measure the torque that it takes to keep the pinion turning, not the initial torque that it takes to begin.
 
i use an old ''beam type'' inch pound torque wrench that goes up to 60 in/lbs works perfect. when i first started settn up rear ends, i really wanted a dial indicator torque wrench but found that a good one starts around 170-200$ so i found my current one for 70$ at napa and absolutely love it.

Yep, a beam style 0-60 In/Lbs works fine too.
