My first truck and I love it. Small, practical, tough, trouble-free, and doggone comfy. I have done nothing but brake pads and frequent oil changes and it has 75k mi on the 2.5L engine.
I bought it off a Navy guy, its here in the Middle East surviving the 130+ degree heat... but not the ball joint seals! Can anyone recommend a mail order source to ship replacement parts, other than JCWhitney? (Regular US/military mail) Nice thing about living here... labor is CHEAP!!! No more bloody knuckles for me!
The continuous ping at hiway speed is troublesome. My slow daily commute avoids the issue. I want it to last well over 100k. From reading many posts, I know its possible. But not with the damage from detonation. The idiots here say no problem, its the gas. I saw your thread about octane ratings. I use premium (mumtaz) since the other option (jayyid) is worse than the homemade moonshine they cook in Saudi! Sounds like the motor is full of marbles! My gut feeling is EGR valve or O2 sensor or such??? What is your advice? Check engine light goes on occasionally, then out after a day. I read another website where one Ranger owner said his has been pinging for years and he has 130k mi on it.
