Hi everyone,

I just scored big at my local JY. I got a set of leather buckets, overhead console, lighted visors and side steps from a '99 Explorer Sport for $75.00. I pulled everything except the side steps, which were already off. The truck was sitting flat on the ground with no wheels so I could not see how the steps mount to the frame. Looking at my Ranger, it seems they mount to the sheetmetal piece between the rocker panel and the actual frame. Can someone take a few pictures of how the Ford tubular sidesteps/running boards mount so I can position mine correctly?

Thanks for any help.

John

OK< I know someone out there has a Ranger with factory side steps and a digital camera. A little help, please?

John

Side steps on an explorer mount different than on a ranger. You will have to custom mount it.

Thanks for the reply Yellowsplash. I was able to look under the Explorer and saw where the steps mount. It seems the Explorer has a different rocker panel arrangement that the Ranger. Are the Ranger steps mounted to the frame, or to the sheetmetal piece that runs parallel to the rocker panel a couple of inches in from it?

They mount to the bottom of the cab, and the mounts are specific to certain years. I have a mint set with brackets that I got for $75 off a '99 ext cab for my '04 ext cab. They're still sitting in the garage though because the rear bracket design changed in either '02 or '03, and I have yet to pony up $60 each for the newer brackets from the dealer.
