picture of the day!!

And a year ago today we drove around the north shore and down the east coast. Got out of our box a little and went to the Valley of Kings, a Buddhist Temple which was very cool and peaceful.

And one year ago today we hit the zoo, drove up Mount Tantalus and went to a Luau.

Overlooking Diamondhead and Honolulu/Waikiki. Our condo was down by Diamondhead at the end of Waikiki.

Our last day there we drove around some more, got some more malasadas (portugese donuts, highly recommend) and hit the Dole Plantation before heading back.

As a native Iowan, land of rich black soil I marveled the whole time how anything could grow in such rocky red soil. At the plantation I learned that pineapple love the iron rich soil and thrive on it. Its funny how everything has its niche. And then on the little train ride deal... what inhospitable looking plants. Guys have to walk down the rows and harvest them by hand. :shok:

Every few years they have to disk it up and restart it and it takes a few years before it will produce again.

Walking thru a field of spikes and cutting fruit with a machete makes sitting in dad's 1978 combine look pretty plush...

And to wrap it up, sometime tomorrow morning... sunrise over the California coast.

What's wrong with your camera? Everything looks white.

That doesn't look like much fun.

Main problem here is all the packed wet snow is now ice. And under that is mud because the snow is insulating it from getting cold enough to freeze hard.

Taken from my truck window in my driveway on my way to work the other day.

A Ranger with 6" lift and 35" tires seems to be effective shelter from the rain.

I miss having chickens around, they are a lot of fun.

Until a mink breaks into the chicken house...
