Picture of 302 vs 4.6L for '83-'97 V8 Conversions section

I was reading the V8 Conversion article:
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/V8Conversions.html

I don't browse the V8 forum enough to know if questions on Mod swaps are an issue, but I found an old picture of a 302 sitting next to a 4.6L that very clearly illustrates how massive that 4.6L really is and with our small engine bays that swap should only be considered by those with previous experience in engines swaps and some serious fabrication skills. I thought it might look good on that page right above the dimensions table.
Picture is from my photobucket, so I guess I technically have rights to it if that matters.:icon_thumby:

SIDE NOTE: Another good addition to that particular page would be getting a comparison from someone who has done a conversion on both the '83-'89 and '90-'95 (I think the '96+ trucks are pretty self-explanatory with OBD2). I'd like to know some of finer nuances such as wiring differences, any electronics/computer issues specific with the generations (and what V8 motors work with the old OBD1/EEC system), any differences in transmission tunnel, any specific clearance issues, etc. Maybe the V8 swap is done by guys with old beaters mostly, but it would be nice to see a little more information if someone wanted to buy a specific year of Ranger with an intended purpose in mind (such as drag racing, crawling, mudding, etc.) and wanted to know which year/generation is going to work best for what they want to do.

Amazing when you see them side by side.

There have been both SOHC and DOHC swaps done on 98+ trucks, when it is all said and done they do look like they came that way.

It was remotely feasible at all I would have loved to put a 2v 5.4 in mine... :D

That's a dohc 4v mod motor in that comparison pic. The 4v are huge. A buddy had his hood popped on his 460 big block t-bird next to my dohc 4.6 cobra. The 4v are wider than the big blocks.

The 2v's are not much narrower either.

The 460 and family is narrower but longer than a mod.

Wow, I knew there was a size difference but I hadn't thought it was that extreme. Talk about a cramped bay with a 4.6 in it!

Here are weights and dimensions of the 4.6 and 5.4 modular motors:

I got these from this AWESOME article in Mustang and Fords magazine.
Shawn, see no width difference between the SOHC and the DOHC in that chart. Found this in the FRPP catalog.

That's interesting Dave. I can only assume where Mustang and Fords Mag pulled their figures from. I bet they didn't smell good.

Maybe the difference is bare vs. full dress? :icon_confused:

Thanks for posting that BTW.
