Hi, Im currently replacing the oil pan gasket and pump, and the pickup tube seems like it has a hidden bolt somewhere. Can anyone tell me where this is? Thanks, Lucas

Look at your main bearing caps. Usually one of those bolts has a piggyback stud for a nut that holds the oil pickup tube.

I see what your talking about. Should I take the nut off main bearing cap? Or is there another bolt/nut that I'm not seeing? Thanks

Well, since I have never personally worked on a 2.8, and you have it sitting in front of you, I suggest that you use your eyes and see if there is a piece running from the pickup tube down to the main cap that the nut is holding. If there is, then yes, you should take that nut off.

As for things you may not be seeing, I am beginning to suspect there are a great many of them.

I finally got the pickup tube off. There was 2 tiny nuts on the piggyback stud you were talking about. Now im having an issue with not enough clearance to get the oil pan put. I took off the motor mount nuts and raised the engine, but still not enough clearance. Thanks.

Do you have any more room to jack the engine up?

Even with the pickup tube off there isn't always enough space, especially on a 4x4, to get the oil pan out with the engine in.

Finally got everything out. Had to get my cherry picker for more clearance. Thanks for for all your help.
