I have been looking for a little off road toy for a while and happened to stumble across this bronco on kijiji. The add said it was running but needed some work, pic looked good and the lady sounded sincere. Told me the fuel gauge didnt work, the tranny stuck in o/d :icon_confused:, and it might need a fuel pump. It was 150km away and 8pm on sunday when I got a hold of her, since I had to be at work by 4:30am I decided to drive out and look at it (3 hours of sleep, 13 hour shift :icon_twisted: )

Has a new radiator, hoses, tune up (plugs wires, cap, rotor, air filter and oil change) radius arm bushings, front shocks, wheel alignment, rebuilt rear diff, and new heater fan. It came with a new master cylinder, hatch pins, the spare tire rack and "a box of old stereo stuff in the back"

I talked them down to $400 and drove it home tuesday with no trouble. Here is a pic of my co-pilot and the 'wiggle wagon' moments after arriving home.

It ran good aside from an occasional miss (tfi??) and shifted fine, handled like a wet noodle and stopped... eventually.

Looking it over it needs rear shocks, drivers side main leaf spring is cracked dead centre over the axle, both outer axle u-joints are loose, and the fan clutch is seized. But on the bright side once I got home I looked in the 'box of old stereo stuff' and found a newer clarion cd player, 400w clarion amp, and a pair of 6x9's in boxes! :icon_hornsup:

In the last three days I cleaned and painted the front bumper and installed a pair of 7" 100w spot lights. Replaced the hatch latch pins and aligned it properly. and started making a heavy duty rear bumper for the rear in my spare time at work.

Today I picked up up a pair of rear shocks, u-joints, fan clutch, and found a guy a few streets over parting out a 94 explorer that will sell me the rear leafs for "twenty or thirty bucks" and is gonna get them off for me this weekend :headbang: I am stoked!

One of the main reasons I wanted a little truck/suv is I picked up a set of 29.5x8.5 tsl's for cheap (off of kijiji too lol) I think the aluminum rims are too wide so I might pick up a set of steelies from the wreckers to mount them on.

Here is how it's sitting now, if it's dry tomorrow I'm going to cut polish and wax it to get some of the stick scratches out of it, the paint isnt in all that bad of shape aside from the hood and hatch being spray bombed which I will redo.

ahh.. manual t/case... i'm jealous! lol
nice for $400. wish i could find one like that
those rims should be fine? the stock alum's are only a 7 or 8 inch wide rim.. shouldn't be an issue. now why you would want a 8.5 inch wide tire? idk.. that's beyond me lol.

i'd say drive it till something actually breaks. EXCEPT, try to pick up those explorer axles. regear them to 4.10's.. and have an almost bolt in major upgrade.

Because I want to go places but dont want a bigger than stock tire that is gonna make a mess every time I drive through a puddle on the road, been there before and 'the look' isnt worth the maintenance. That and the lil 2.9 has 304,000km and is 25 years old, I dont think the extra stress of bigger tires is going to do it or the rest of the driveline any good. The tsl's have a very aggressive tread and will chew through a lot of crap before getting stuck, A wider tire will just float on top of the soft stuff and spin where a narrower tire will cut through to solid ground.

Picked up a set of ranger steelies of a buddy today, just gotta swap the tires over and I will be good to go.

The explorer has the D1 axles (3:27, L/S) if they were the 3:73's or 4:10's I would consider swapping them over but it's not worth the hassle. The little 28 will be fine for my needs and I have a couple 7.5's with L/S I could swap in if I need a little more traction. I have other trucks with solid axles and big tires I could take out if I want to go destroy trails. This is just gonna be my little hunting/camping/fishing mobile. It will fit most places an atv will go and tow my boat or tent trailer there behind it. Besides I already have way too many projects.

I gave it a quick polish and wax today and replaced the fan clutch, much quieter now.

Was hoping to get the shocks and u-joints in but back to work tomorrow, gonna have to wait a little bit.

Can anyone tell me what the fuel tank capacity is? Put 65L in it tonight, dont know where it all went!

Good looking b-II.
I have 29" TSL's mounted on '87ish stock aluminum rims and have had no problems. I think they are 29x8r15 but can't be sure without checking. I've been out snow wheeling with them in my '85 b-ii and use them on my cheapass '91 ranger short course off-road race truck. I've rolled the truck but never broke a bead yet, knock on wood.

Richard

edit; The tires are 29/8.5r15

I'm impressed with how well it cleaned up. Went over it once with meguiars ultimate compound and a 7" buffer then a couple coats of meguiars gold class wax.

A buddy who hauls scrap cars had a set of ranger steelies sittin on his tire pile so the tsl's will go on them, traded him some scrap aluminum and a half dozen old car batteries for them :icon_thumby: my old cotes tire machine cant get the tsl's off the old yota rims though lol. I cant wait to get it out on some trails, will have some muddy pics to post for sure.

B2's came with 23 gallon gas tanks.

Thanks for the info guys. Im used to filling the tiny tank in my turbo sprint so the bronco was kinda surprising lol

Got my leaf springs today, just gotta pick up some new u-bolts. I did manage to get those tsl's off the rims. The first one was real tough, rust inside the rim but the other 3 came off easy, go figure.
