New guy here, A guy I work with just bought a brand new truck and I was able to get his 94 extra cab xlt from him for 400 bucks. Body is in excellent shape, couple spots of rust the size of a quarter on the hood, but thats it, no dents or ever been hit. Never been towed or plowed with. It has just over 200K and feels like its going to need a clutch, but besides that the drive-train is good, I always did his service for him, brakes, brake lines, power steering hoses, etc. I new there was an issue with the rear suspension but wow, I got under there and saw what it was, the rear hangers and shackles were gone, and I mean gone, the springs were right against the bed, was a pretty easy fix, local parts place had everything for about a hundred bucks. One of the fronts is also broken so I'll replace both them next weekend. I picked this truck up as a spare vehicle because of the low price, and to pull my little boat around, pick up stuff for the house etc. I think after I do the clutch I'll be into it for about 650. But that all depends on the only other I problem that I know of so far, the 4x4 switch dosent seem to work, I have done some reading on here already about it and have pulled the switch out of the dash already, I will bring my meter home from work to check power there, I believe the control module is behind the drivers seat? Is this correct? and what should I be looking for if I need to get into that?

First--> Welcome to TRS!!!

Second--> Sounds like you've got a pretty good truck there. Just needs some TLC and you'll have a reliable rig. As far as the 4x4 stuff I don't know but I'm sure someone that can help will chime in soon.

Third--> :worthless:

Welcome! Sure sounds like a very sweet deal especially since you know the mechanic. Spring hangers are one of the big problems, even with the newer ones , '98'. Jump in and find a spot, sit back and enjoy!

Ok here are some pics, I think its pretty decent for 400 bucks. Im not sure how long he drove it with the broken spring hangers but long enough to cut threw the underside of the bed, too bad, it always had a mat in it and otherwise is in really good shape. The back bumper gained almost 6 inches in height after I replaced the rear mounts and shackles. The fronts should be here this week, no one stocked them locally, the front mount is broken so bad I cut a piece of 2x4 and put it in there till the new ones get here (I wont be driving it till its fixed). Ok so I went back out to look at the 4x4 switch, I indeed have power at the switch in the dash, and when pressed I do hear a faint click from the module in back of the drivers seat, so I pulled the shift motor off, tried the switch again and nothing, any advice on how to test it or which wires to check for power at the motor? and how do you actually totally remove it? cut the wires that go to the transfer case that dont disconnect at the round connector and spice them again to reinstall?

something else you should due is up grade the front brakes from a 95-97 ranger as they have dual piston calipers & they bolt on to the brackets where as the 94 was last year of the single piston & the wedge pins that hold the calipers on. You would need the spindle /hub brackets with upper & lower ball joints & rotors & calipers to make it happen.

Thats the same color my 94 is as far as the cab still is ,,mine will eventually be a extended cab with a 7ft bed & sas 4wd conversion from a 2wd
