My CEL light is on with insufficient flow.

I did the vacuum test today with my truck idling. I was able to put 20 in vacuum on the EGR and the engine started surging but did not stall.

I read elsewhere on this forum that if it doesn't stall under full vacuum it means you have dirty EGR passages or clogged exhuast tube.

So heading that advice I assumed the EGR must be clogged so I took it off and looked in the tube and the EGR, these picsare what I saw...this isn't hardly even dirty? Is there a change the tube is clogged way down by the orifice?

What are people's thoughts? Should I assume no problems with dirty/carbon and try replacing DPFE?

Hmmm...my link works when I clikc on it? And I'm on a different computer than the one I posted with??

Well, the jist of my question is, EGR and associated Exhuast Tube/Pipe look clean as a whistle, however when I did the vaccum test on the EGR valve the engine did not stall with 20 inches of vaccum on the EGR.

It was holding pressure and I tested the EGR off the car and it definitly opens up all the way.

So what does this mean, other on this forum have said ALL engines should stall if the EGR is opened all the way while idling, and if they don't, EGR or tube is plugged dirty.

My situation seems to defy that rule and I was hoping to get some others thoughts.

if i was you i would just replace it and see if that helps but other than that im just as confused as you

Replace the sensor. The little unit that is attached to the upper intake with the rubber hoses from the pipe. EGR is used when the engine gets hot at highway speeds to increase gas mileage and reduce heat. If the sensor goes, the valve will stick open during idle.

if u got compress air blow down the tube towards the manifold and see how free it flows

I agree with Otto, sounds like a defective DPFE sensor to me.

Yep, you guys were right, I replaced the DPFE and so far so good...no more CEL and I've got 20 some miles so far...longest stint ever w/o CEL. Thanks!
