Petition to Bring the Global Diesel Ranger to America

Our wonderful loviathon government keeps them from bringing the diesels here with their emmisions standards, catalytic convertors, etc. for the diesels. The newer diesels now get like 15-20% less fuel economy than the older ones due to the new regs in the U.S. GM / Isuzu also makes a diesel Colorado that won't be coming to the U.S.
If you want these truck to come here you better start petitioning your government for a redress of grievances instead of petitioning Ford or any other carmaker.

that is the biggest load of bull since global warming...ever heard of biodiesel? you know, ZERO EMISSIONS...diesel is the future, unfortunatly the world may have to end before everyone realizes it..

rudolph diesel is rolling in his grave at this moment at how his invention is being polluted with petroleum products...

Not only have I heard of it, I love it.

Nothing makes an old diesel leak better. :icon_thumby:

dude if you start petitioning the gvt for what they have screwed up you are going to go insane..that would be a 10,000 lifetimes of 10,000 wizards and you might have gotten obama's admin covered....then there's the rest of em to fix too? good luck with that..

of if you really want a diesel ranger, drop a 4bt in one, then you can pick your body style..

If they said it would be out in the morning, I would buy one tomorrow.
I've owned 11 RBVs (4 Rangers, 6 Exs, and 1 BII), I'm a diehard Ranger lover who's lookin to buy a new truck. But I will NOT buy another Ranger with the P.O.S. 4.0 SOHC. Give me a 4 banger diesel -- V8 torque at 30 MPG.

how bout an ecoboost ranger?

maybe a lineup like ecoboost 4, diesel, ecoboost 6.

IDK. call me crazy

wow! my HOUSE payment was 350 a month...ya know, i think people that buy brand new vehicle are the dumbest people in the world, just name me ONE product besides vehicles and electronics that is worth half of what you paid for it an hour after you bought it...and if you had held on to that old junker for a few more years you could have saved thousands on a vehicle purchase...700 a month? after you pay that how can you afford gas for it?:icon_confused:

This is EXACTLY why they will NEVER EVER EVER bring a diesel Ranger to the US... The (tiny) percentage of the public that will actually buy one, isn't dumb enough to buy one new... Why would Ford ever make something that wouldn't make them money? Ford has diesel Rangers in other countries because of (don't laugh)... Toyota, and Land Rover (seriously)... The Toyota Landcruiser 70-series and Land Rover Defender are used overseas like our 1-ton trucks are, so, naturally, the Ranger is their competition (most trucks over a certain GVWR have to pay higher taxes and stuff, IIRC)... You don't see many F-150/250/350's in other countries... If they need something bigger than the Ranger/Landcruiser/Defender/Patrol chassis, they step up to something like an Isuzu NPR, etc...There just isn't a place for a diesel ranger in the US market... Sadly... If we need a truck to tow over 5k lbs, we get a full size... Because we aren't penalized when we buy a full size truck, so why not? In other countries, why buy a big truck (and pay more) when a small truck will do?

Funny how the "diehard Ford enthusiast" drives a 1992 Jeep Wrangler.

I own 2 Fox-body Mustangs, an F-150, and a 1969 Mercury Cougar.

That said, it's the middle of a brutal winter, and nothing tackles the snow quite like a Wrangler.

Now then, I understand some people's reservations about this. The ONLY reason Ford won't sell a diesel Ranger here in the states is because they don't think people will buy it. Don't give me that EPA hooplah, VW and Mercedes both figured out how to bring similar size or larger diesel engines to vehicles they sell in the states.

Quite simply, Ford doesn't think we will buy it. I am going around to Ford vehicle forums posting this because I want to show them they are wrong, but I'm just one dude with a dream. I'm trying to circulate this petition in between writing a story about ZR1 Corvette owners and a primer on converting your vehicle to propane.

Long story short, if you're not a naysayer and this is something you'd actually like to see happen, help a brother out, spread the word, and who knows? Ford might actually listen.

The worst that happens is we don't get the diesel Ranger anyways.

so any ideas of a way to usefully promote the petition?

does anybody really think the ranger is dead forever?:icon_confused:

likely escape based by the end but shit happens fast these days.

I do have to say, it would be a great idea since diesels are becoming more and more popular because of their power, torque, and if taken care of, very long life. You can run almost anything in a diesel engine, from cooking oil to transmission fluid (not recommended, but it is possible).

My bro has a 2005 Duramax, and by simply pushing a buttom on his Edge module, he can get 23MPG out of that massive truck, push another button and he gets 80HP and 200ft torque out of it......safely.

Volkswagon made their newer "bugs" with an optional diesel engine that gets 55mpg, and it's still pretty peppy.

The only downsides to a diesel are you have to change the fuel filter more often and the fuel may gel up in extreme cold weather.

Other than that, let's go for it!

Ford ISN"T gonna bring it to America until 2.........2........yep, 2 things happen.

1. They figure out a way to sell their other models instead of letting them gather dust (if the diesel ranger catches on).

2. As soon as they can work out a compromise with the major oil companies so they (big oil) can get even fatter & richer.

as soon as those things happen,

I'll put a diesel in my '89/'36 Ranger.....waaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahhhaaaaa

I'm in, down, and all around! That would be awesome! I men just look at how many posts there are about diesel swaps and conversions on here..

You forgot about cost. Dunno what it is up to now, but a couple years ago the Power Stroke was a $8k option over the V10, which was only a $500 option over the 5.4.

Modern gas engines will easily outlive the body they come in.

IMO the ideal Ranger powertrain linup would be a Ecoboost 4 and the 3.5. Ford is making the 6.2 look pretty stupid getting the same power with twice the milage out of a 3.5EB, a 4banger EB would be hot little engine in a Ranger.
