I recently downloaded and was using Firefox which I've been using on my desktop for many years, it works, but it really slows down my cell phone I mean so slow I couldn't really use it. But it stop almost all advertising with the adblock plus download that is an add-on to Firefox

Anyway I'm back using chrome and advertising is worse than ever I keep opting out which is an exercise in futility!

now there's a drop-down advertisement at the top of the page whenever you go to move or change the page it drops down!

I suppose this is more of a rant because it's quite impossible to really stop advertising

Use Brave. No advertising at all, and you can opt to see ads and get paid for viewing them in cryptocurrency.

I use chrome on everything and never had any issues like that. Just the typical little banner ads at the top of the page that are hardly noticeable. Maybe you need to change your privacy settings.

I only see the ads if I am NOT logged in. Using Chrome on my personal phone (Android) and same on my work phone (iPhone).

Google is becoming skynet as in the movies lol
I just installed Brave, only been using it a few minutes, I like it!

I have found that ad blockers seem to be making pages load slow or incorrectly in the last year or so, almost like part of the page code gets caught with the blocked ads.

Seems to be the case. Usually ad blockers route you through a vpn, so it tends to add to the headache.

Also, bonus to Brave is if TRS registers with them, users can direct their ad revenue back to TRS, no matter where they browse.

Premium Members (Supporting Members) don't get any of the ads displayed to them. It's a perk of contributing $10 a year to be a member and support the site.

Just out of curiosity, you guys realize why those ads are there right? I have to pay a hosting company every month to have a server to run this site on. I spent every day working on something related to this site. If I didn't allow Google to display these ads, I wouldn't be able to afford to keep the site.

Anytime I've ever seen people complain about ads, it makes me think that they don't realize that there's costs involved. Heck, even you guys don't really surf the net for free. You either pay for internet, or you have a cell phone plan.

Look at it this way, if you watch public TV, you have to watch commercials that pay for the airtime. You can pay for cable, and not have to watch commercials. I pay for Hulu, but still have to endure commercials. I can buy a magazine, but it's still full of advertisements.

There is a cost to publish content. No matter what the platform. When you guys surf the net and use ad blockers, you're making those people work for free.

If you're here a lot and don't want to see ads in the forum, spend the $10 for a yearly membership and get rid of them. I'm pretty confident you've blown $10 on something you probably didn't enjoy, and didn't think much about it. At least this way, you know you've contributed it to something you enjoy.

PS, I see the ads too. I don't block them to make sure that I'm having the same experience our readers have.

I will most likely be a contributing member in the very near future, waiting for my seniors real estate rebate. I've been online so many years I am actually aware of the why and what for of advertising.

The pervasive advertising I'm referring to is not so much about that which is related to the site. It's Google analytics that drives me bonkers because it's inescapable, as I mentioned above, it's probably going to be the skynet that took over the world re the Terminator movie series ??

Brave browser is great so far!

It has always baffled me how few people realize that if you get something for "free" you are what is being sold, such as in the FB debacle.

Wait a minute... you're telling me facebook makes billions of dollars and that money doesn't come from all the revenue generated through having free accounts?!
