Hey guys,

I got new tires a few weeks back (31's) and my desire for getting my performance and MPG back out of my '01 3.0 V6 is making me search high and low for a new rear end. Current I've got the 3.73 and while it's getting the job done, I think I'd be better off with some higher gearing.

Anyways I can't find any rears ends around San Diego with 4.10 but I've seen 4.56's on Craigslist... Should I just go with one with a 4.56? Or am I just going to be wasting it on my 31 inch tires and 3.0?

Thanks brothers!

with a higher revving engine, 4.10's isn't quite enough for 31's, I don't know if you have an auto or 5 speed, but my truck (turbo 2.3, 31's and a 5 speed with 4.10's) 5th gear isn't usable until 65mph, it was the same way N/A also...

did you have your speedo recalibrated after the tire change? if not, your gas mileage probably didn't change that much, changing gears mainly moves shift points around, unless you are cruising in the wrong gear lugging the engine down further than it needs to be it shouldn't change mileage significantly.

3.73 to 4.56 is a 22% change. I would suggest driving around in 4th gear all the time to get a feel of what the re-gear would be like. 4.30 would be a 15% change. 4.10 would be a 10% change.

if it's the 4 speed auto, i'd go with the 4.56's for sure. will make the most of the hp/torque you have. you'll also be using less gas pedal and that might help your mileage. also, check here on TRS for gears (upper right of the page, blue box-parts). good prices and great vendor service. good luck.
