So I've upgraded the sound system, the rims, got a tonneau cover, new grille, new paint, etc. but I don't have any engine, or performance upgrades. I have a 1992 Ford Ranger XLT 2WD (rear), 4100 lbs, and I'm assuming around 140 HP. If it is even possible, I want to get the HP as close to 200HP as possible, even 180HP will suffice. Can any, or all please direct me in the direction for performance upgrades? I prefer upgrades that cost no more than $2000 total, cause I'm only a teen with limited money coming this summer.

Thanks,
Chris

To get 200 usable horsepower, there are only three truly decent options (and only two I'd really want). Nitrous oxide, turbocharging, and supercharging. One company (name escapes me right now) produced a supercharger kit for a few years for the 3.0. I'd spend some time trying to track down a used rig. Far and away the simplest way to get 200 reliable, usable horsepower.

Whiple I believe was the name of the company. If your looking for a lil more power without going those directions there are a few other things you can do.

Underdrive pullies
1.7 roller rockers
headers
tuners (I have yet to see one that works for the obd1 though)
morana offers a 3.3 stroker kit

well thats all I can think of right now.

I might be crazy but it seems to me like a 5.0 swap would be the best route to 200hp...

I agree. Short of a homebrew forced air system, a 4.0OHC or 5.0 swap sounds like the best plan here.

I wouldn't waste the money on pulleys, rockers, or a stroker crank when you could put that cash towards a better end product elsewhere.

A 5.0 swap is probably my favorite choice. Personally I am doing rockers/pulleys this summer its my DD so I can't afford to have it down for to terribly long, I can bum rides to work for a few days... maybe someday far down the road.

i have an 06 our HP numbers are close. with out looking at wear and tear, you rolled off the line at 145hp and 165 flbs, were i have 148 hp, and 180 flb

that being said, my list of mods,
k&n in take(some dont like it) $250ish
exhaust made my own, just got a mufflers and pre bent tubing was three parts total $150
pullies $130 ish
e fan $90
tb mod free

when i stomp on it you can see the front end come up, with cold tires you can light them up for about 2 sec.

im doing rockers with in the next two weeks or so, so i can let you know how it goes.

idk what your really looking for as far as end result. but hope this helps.

and i have 31'' tires

Yeah I forgot about an efan. Also the zip tie mod just came to mind. It helps in the butt dyno assuming you need it. check it out in the tech library.

Definately go for the 1.7 Roller Rockers, as for other stuff, Underdrive Pulleys, u can Port and Polish your intake, thats a freebie, and definately get a little bit bigger diameter pipes for your exhaust, it helps out increase the flow of air rushing thru em, just don't go over 2.5 inch, cause if u go bigger, you'll end up losing horsepower, hope this helps, take care.
