Can someone help me out on some quick easy performance upgrades, coil, plugs, wires, anything to help this old truck out?

search, its all been covered.

the only "cheap and easy" mods available would be a performance chip, regearing your axles, and underdrive pulleys. after that, things get expensive.

Is MSD the way to go?
MSD 6A ignition
Blaster II coil
What about a good set of thick wires or good hot plugs? any sugestions?

All are a waste!!! You can't do any better than the OEM coilpack, and Motorcraft plugs!!

u can only do so much to make a turtle go fast...the turtle of course is your 3.0...maybe slow but always gets 'er done!!!!!

a good set of 8MM plug wires is a good idea. the rest of that is a waste of money and hotter plugs could potentially damage your motor.

You could look into the Mustang 5.0 roller rockers.

The late model distro-LESS OEM ignitions are quite good, but wouldn't his '91 have the old distributor? There's got to be something better than that... or is he then looking at new computer, CMP, etc.???

Cheek, how many MILES on that ol' pony? Better check your COMPRESSION, on all 6, before dropping too many $$.

his truck does have a distributor and there is still no reason to upgrade the system unless MAJOR changes to the engine warrant it (such conditions could be running an extremely high compression ratio or a very high-boost turbo. both have the potential to prevent the stock coil from generating sufficient energy to jump the plug gap).

ive heard from guys running an MSD ignition that it does help to smooth the idle out somewhat (undoubtedly due to multiple spark firing), but at higher RPM's, where the vulcan lives, this feature is disabled and theres no advantage to the MSD system.

The underdrive crank pulley from Underdog Performance is a good investment. It makes the Vulcan a little more bearable and fun to drive.

As stated, the stock ignition is fairly robust, so a basic tune-up is all you need there. If you need to replace the plug wires, I found a good value in United's "premium" plug wire set. They are high quality silicone jacketed 8mm wires and priced under $30/set from RockAuto. Hard to beat that deal.
