i need to know what kinda performance parts i can put on my 2.9 liter un my ranger i already have exhaust and a intake i want to know if they make performance heads or camshaft for it or even mayb a chip or soemthing i need moreeeeeeeeee power for the summer till i drop a 351 in it
With that being said

; I am in the middle of a V8 swap now, and my last engine happens to be a 2.9L I tried to hop up with an aftermarket cam. You will need all the money you can get for your 351W swap - your money is better spent there and would most practical to just wait. Trust me, you'll need all of the money you can get. Time and money always become the limiting factor, start collecting parts for the 351W swap now. (IMO)
But yes, check out
http://www.camcraft.com. They offer Power Max Heads and RV cams. Most cam manufacturers can probably make what ever cam you want, you will want to work with them on picking out what cam will be right for your build. I had Colt Cams in Langley B.C. custom grind mine, it was fairly inexpensive.
I also had my heads milled .030" and had to have my lower intake manifold milled to compensate for the change. No clue how much CR I gained, but it probably wasn't much.
There's not much the stock computer can handle as far as performance, I would recommend upgrading to a '90 MAF system (this is the route I went).
Exhaust and intake only really adjust noise, you really won't notice any gain here unless you have upgrades to utilize the benefits. The best way to get more power out of an engine is by increasing the amount of air in the cylinders; forced induction seems to be the best way to go for the biggest increase for your money. Nitrous Oxide also allows more air molecules into the intake charge (it's not flammable itself). A stroker kit could be made for a lot of money.
I think I was quoted $600 for custom made forged pistons. I was going to S/C mine, but changed my mind mid stream, why build something to peak out at stock V8 power, when you can skip the dumb shit and just drop in a V8 and have a better platform to build off of for performance? Hopping up a 2.9L can be done, but it would just be a waste of money in you're just going to pull it right back out. It's not going to be cheap (or probably reliable).
