Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on performance chips.

I found a module or something alike from Jet Performance Products that would give almost an extra 50hp. I like it because it gives added horsepower all the way through the power band, instead of just at high RPMs. Sad thing is that its about $350! Will theese increase gas mileage as well??

I have heard good things about Jet performance but 50hp? I don't know man.......

i got a jet chip and i love it only gave like 2 something for it and it was new when i got it

I can tell you now you wont get 50hp from it. This isnt a diesel with a turbo or anything. You will more likely see about 10 more hp. I got a jet chip on my truck and I noticed a difference for the better. Was it really worth the money? If you got it laying around I would say go for it.

You shouldn't be paying over $250.00 for a Jet Module.

This is what Jet says:

Performance tuning is more difficult on Ford vehicles since the factory computer does not have a chip that can be easily replaced. To solve the problem JET developed a plug in module that attaches to the vehicle computer externally that can add up to 30 horsepower. The JET Ford Module optimizes the ignition spark advance, air to fuel ratios and transmission shifting for the ultimate in power and mileage gains. JET's exclusive Dynamic Spectrum Tuning provides optimal performance across the entire power band-not just at full throttle. Great for towing or SUV applications, all out street performance cars and everyday drivers. Daily drivers can use lower cost regular fuel for potential mileage gains, but for optimal performance gains use of mid-grade or better is recommended. Improves throttle response, acceleration and low end torque. Simple, plug-in installation in less than 30 minutes. Also works well with aftermarket intake and exhaust systems, mass air sensors, TBI spacers, etc. 50 state smog legal!

Don't expect more than 30HP. If you really wanted one I could get you one for $240.50 plus shipping.

I have an 02 3.0L Supercab XLT. One of the guys on this forum posted a quote from Jet saying a max of 30hp. I did read that, and I did think 50 hp was quite a bit. I'm saying an extra 50 hp from the dyno chart they had on the Ford Ragner 3.0, it was a 2000 model, but I think everything is the same. On the dyno chart they had I thought I saw 50hp gain, maybe I miss read, maybe it could have been 30, but still, 30hp!

When the chip makers advertise 30-50 hp gain they're talking results from a 350ish V8. Gains will be directly proportional to displacement.

I think thats in general advertising. A dyno chart specifically for my truck and same engine had a 43hp gain up at around 5000 RPM. It seemed to be that consistant too all the way through the power band.

well if ya got the extra monet that you can spend, go for it and make sure ya report back to us how it worked. not to many of buy into the smoke and mirrors, but a good honest opinion from one of our own means something to us.

i bought the jet modue for my 3.0 and i love it, idk about 50hp though. you must be looking at a different chip because i think mine said like 10-20 hp gain and it was only like $220. IMO it was worth the money.

on grandpas 99' f150 a jet chip of some sort costing about 260$ gave him about 44hp. and about the same torque. I think its worth it, and it improves with other parts u add like airintake exc.

Concur with 98Ranger4X4- I had one on my 01 4.0 SOHC ranger and my seat-o-the pants dyno said about 20 HP..............
But cheap and easy power, tho...........

Sorry for bumping up an old post, but don't waste your money on these. I was thinking about getting a performance chip too, but it looks like these things don't do crap. I was reading this performance article about it, and it looks like these things don't work at all

With these aftermarket "chips" for trucks with the pats system, I would recommending duct taping it in place on the ecu, Superchips also uses the piggyback module and they work themsleves loose over time and short out the ECU. It doesnt hurt it, just randomly shuts off the engine as the pats system woiuld.

i get the ones off ebay that say it adds 100hp and gets you 95 mpg :icon_twisted: my car goes so freakin fast with em:icon_rofl:
those guys are scumbags for doin that to people who dont understand its just a box with an led light that blinks:annoyed:

but serously, if its obd1 jet is the only(?) one i thing obd2 its better to get a scanner/performance thing.
