Hello all. This is my first post here. I have been playing with Rangers for the last 11 or 12 years. Built 3 V-8 trucks and one 2.9 truck. I found and purchased a book that was written in Europe about how to modify the 4.0 many many years ago. After a recent move I can not find it. Its here somewhere but I dont have the time to spend digging through boxes. I recently purchased a 1993 Ranger and my first thought was to just drop in the 302 HO & AOD that I have sitting under the bench for another project but after much thought I have decided to pull the injured 4.0 and rebuild it. After a compression check revealed a burnt valve on # 2 cylinder, I started researching doing some high performance mods while I had it torn down. Does anybody know where I can find the above mentioned book? And all advice, links, or suggestions are welcomed. I am planing to balance the rotating assembly, port the heads, install stainless valves, port the intake, install an aftermarket TB and MAF, headers, exhaust, centerforce clutch and anything that comes up in this thread. I have been off in the 7.3 diesel world for the last 5 years and have lost touch with the Ranger movement. Still have the 7.3 but need the Ranger to scoot around town. And since it is going to be apart I figured I might as well add a little while I am there... Thanks guys for any and all help.

You know I get the strong impression around here at TRS that the 4.0 really arn't that good at performance changes. It's a good torky long lasting and the mileage is pretty good, personally I like there drivability. If your looking for a fast ranger I would go under the bench and plan A.

You can get some pretty decent power of out a 4.0 but if you actually build it up and dont do just bolt ons and it sounds like thats what you are going for. might want to check out supersixmotorsports.com

as for the book you mention i have not heard of it but would be interested to see it

There is a very large following of the Cologne motor in Europe. Including DOHC Cosworth versions. I have the book but cant locate it since I recently moved and all my books are still packed away. These motors have a lot of potential and can be very dependable even when built for performance. I was hoping someone had seen the book or had the book and could give me the info about it.

Thanks for the link Daniel3507 I will check it out and see what I can learn.

I already bought a set of Hedman headers for it yesterday and am looking further into it every day. I will post a thread on my final findings.

Thanks,

FOMOGO
