I am pretty certain this is the PCV valve

Am I correct?

I didn't look at it when at the auto parts store and they gave me this

Had I looked first I would have questioned when there so question now is could this somehow be a replacement for the original or back to the auto parts place?

I also note with the first pic the rubber grommet around it is in terrible shape and is not providing much of a seal.

First picture looks like the Vent hose on Drivers side valve cover
PCV Valve is on the Passenger side valve cover.

Vent hose is as important as the PCV Valve, it needs to be clean and clear of oil residue.
It should run from valve cover to air plenum(big tube from air cleaner to intake manifold), or it will run to air filter housing.

Thanks Ron. I couldn't see anything on the left side, but I will look again. The rubber grommet around the vent there is in bad shape and in the process of, well I don't know, turning goey the way some rubber does when exposed to some oil/solvents.

Yeah, those grommets die after a while. Check out the HELP parts at Autozone. They usually have some universal ones that should fit.

I found the little bitch hiding on the other side, it had gotten pushed on its side by a large wire bundle that hid it and by it laying flat I figured nothing could be underneath.

What a nasty mess it was, the grommet was all melty like the other side and had been sucked into the valve. It certainly wasn't doing anything it was supposed to like that.

The first pic is the breather cap you should be able to get all three both grommets and cap and it probably wouldnt hurt to replace the breather hose to the air box. The breather cap pulls filtered air into the engine when the pcv is working correct. I allways replace the PCV valve with spark plugs just for giggles they are cheap.
