If i replace these on my 2002 ford ranger 4.0l 4x4 will it help it get more mpg's and power? I feel like my 4 litre is short on power and gets about 15 mpg's :icon_surprised: Today i bought a pcv valve and fuel filter to replace hopefully tomorrow. But if its useless then i wont bother. Neither have been changed on the truck for at least 3 years. What mpg's r u getting in a similar ranger? My 2008 Ford F-250 cc 4x4 diesel gets 19 mpg's all day long and does 12.9 in the quarter.

sounds like a tune-up might help you out a bit too, i doubt the pcv valve will do anything, but the fuel filter could be pretty dirty by now. i'd go get some plugs, wires, maybe a distributor cap.

i'd also say to throw a can of seafoam through first, use the vacuum plug on the brake booster and suck a half a can through and then pour the rest in the gas tank. i used it on the 4.0 in my exploder and it runs so much better now, cleaned out everything and it only cost $10.

if you go to autozone, they're selling that lucas tune-up right now and they'll try to get you to buy that, just tell them to go FAG.......and yes, by FAG, i mean go f*ck a goat

I have been changing the pcv with tuneups. They are only a few bucks and yes it can mess with the mileage but normally they keep the internals of the engine clean and changing the fuel filter wont hurt either run some good injector cleaner or about 4 ozs of acetone with a tank of gas first to dissolve any varnish that may have built up first so the old filter catches what it can.

I like the acetone idea but before I put acetone in my truck I'll have to test all the plastic in the fuel system to see if it melts. I've seen the black plastic drain lines disappear from a can of acetone that leaked in the sink. I'll cut up some fuel line and I have some old fuel pumps to take apart, thinking seals. Anything else that might disintegrate?:icon_confused: I'll test it out and report back if anyone's interested.

Were is this vacuum plug? I am sorry but i am used to turbo diesels. Pictures will be greatly appreciated!

After three years it is truly time for both a fuel filter and also a new pcv. So put them in there..
As for milage. About 15 is normal. As for a tune-up... if it runs smoothly and you don't have 125K on the tune then leave it alone. Bad plugs cause missing and skipping.. NOT poor milage. Motorcraft plugs come in that engine and should always be reinstalled. NO other plug is exactly the same as the stock plug.

Maybe clean the TB and MAF sensor, if you clean the MAF Sensor buy the right cleaning spray it only a few buck. Don't use anything else(Vinger, Carb cleaner, Bull Seamen) you get the idea.
