I got a 2005 B4000 with the SOHC 4.0L engine. When attempting to take out the PCV in my truck I noticed it looks significantly shorter than the SMP one I ordered from rock auto.

Its pretty tight to the firewall, not sure if the SMP one will fit? Below on the right is the SMP PCV, left is the WVE which looks the same as the one currently in my truck.

Also does the PCV twist inplace? I see it has ridges near the o-ring.

Definitely looks like a twist-lock.

I can't answer your question about clearance except that if it fits and there is still clearance to the firewall, it's probably fine. I wouldnt want it touching because the engine can move a little bit during operation.

Yes, its a twist lock, sometimes one of the tabs in the valve cover breaks off so no longer "twists" and holds, have to replace valve cover if that happens

If new one is too long then cut it down, its just a hollow tube, or should be at that end
But it may be the wrong one

Managed to get the new one in, its tight but it does fit. Definitely a lot more work to replace than on my chevy k1500.
The old one had no rattle at all, probably did not function very well.

Engine still seems to stumble at startup abit. Looks like i'll still be searching for the cause.

Yo, dashhho, I'm a year ahead of you in 2005 ownership.
The clearance for my PCV valve replacement was tight.
IIRC I unscrewed the valve then removed it from the hose.
Northern vehicles and Southern vehicles require replacement at the 3rd and 4th oil changes respectively.
The old one barely shook; as if clogged with goo.
$6 bought me a DuraLast (AutoZone) valve.
I've read here the entire PCV system is a potential vacuum leak.

Ford\MotorCraft ev268 (google it) is the 1/4twistlock PCV Valve with the CoolantOxBow.
Ford\MotorCraft ev243 (google it) is the 1/4twistlock PCV Valve wOut the CoolantOxBow.
My 2001 V6~4.0L~SOHC originally had the PCV system CoolantLoop, piped parallel with the HeaterCore;
after 2 coolant leaks, removed the small PCV CoolantLoopHoses & the PCV Valve CoolantOxBow, not required for parking in a warm garage.
Sleeved the PCV plastic vacuum tubes with heater hose & spring clamps, to prevent vacuum leaks.
