I have been having possible PCM issues with my 2002 Ranger 3.0L. Rather than replace the PCM (not cheap), I tried SIA Electronics testing and repair through ebay.

SIA runs both hot and cold testing with a partial refund if the testing shows no problem as was the case with my PCM. Communication with SIA was also great. Furthermore the return from SIA was very fast. Also, SIA gives a lifetime warranty on their work.

As another PCM option for people finding this thread down the road - I used FS1inc.com recently for my '94 Camry. They shipped a replacement 'rebuilt' ECM with lifetime warranty for about $210. From a quick glance at their site, looks like their RBV computers are quite a bit cheaper. Solved the weird behavior in the Camry instantly.
