PC I am building....

GDDR 4 has already been on the market for a while and GDDR 2 is not able to run with the new programs that are coming out, they can, but not very well. I personally run 8GB GDDR 4 RAM in my computer which i built, and by the way i run a XFX mobo and its the best motherboard i have ever had, Gigabyte is going bad and ASUS is still the same, i run the 8800 GS Alpha Dog Edition Graphics card overclocked, i can run every game on maximum graphics, including Crysis. I would get GDDR 3 because 4 is not that much better and a good deal on the prices they are giving now.

You do realize that GDDR is graphics card RAM?

DDR3 is the highest for system memory and is just being transitioned to.

Wow is all I got for that.

Like said above GDDR RAM is GPU memory.

DDR4 isn't even out on the market yet for system memory.

I am updating it again. I got a new Gigabyte mother board with no onboard video card since I have an external video card. It has 8 USB slots on the back - WOO HOO!

I also got an AMD Phenom II x4 3.0 GHz. This is the same processor that AMD engineers overclocked to 6.5GHz!

I have an extra XFX motherboard that is less than 2 weeks old, my first case (with 4 fans, a fan controller, and a CD-R/W drive) i would like to sell.

If you are interested, $50 + shipping for them both. I am moving this weekend and don't want to move them.

The older XFX motherboard (I have 2 identical) and my processor is going into another PC for my fiance's grandpa.

hmmm, thats pretty tempting.

im going to have to him and haw over it for a while though. it looks like id have to upgrade my harddrives from IDE and im not sure i can afford that, and a processor. does it come with a power supply? is PCI 2.0 16x backward compatible with regular 16x?

Probably not as far as PSU is concerend.

There's no regular PCI 16X, the 'X' ratings on PCIE has to do with graphics cards, which comes from the old AGP system, where they also had 'X' ratings for the speed at which the slot can run. PCIE, PCI-Express, and PCI are different things. PCIE has been used only for video cards and PCI-Express is now being used in devices like sound cards, TV tuners and modems in place of PCI.

ok...i have a "PCI express x16" video card. his mobo has a "PCI express 2.0 x16" slot. will my video card work in that mobo?

(and i always thought PCIE was short for PCI-express)

Yes it will work.

Upgrading your hard drives is a cheap affair now. You can get 500GB hard drives for about $50.

It doesn't have a power supply.

I tore my setup down yesterday to get ready for my new motherboard and CPU. I painted the inside of my case black so it would match the outside; it looks sharp. Now I am waiting on my new CPU to be delivered so I can plug it in and re-install XP. I can't decide if I want to run 32 or 64 bit XP.

I will post up new pictures tomorrow once it is up and running again.

I would stick with 32 bit with XP. The support isn't (and never was) really there and the only real benefit it gives is more usable memory which you won't need with XP anyway.
