paxton supercharger?

As far as I know (someone correct me if I'm wrong) the block and all that stuff was the same for the fox body's as it was for the other 5.0s so it should bolt right up.

Looks like it would work but for $2200, you sure can do it a lot cheaper and get more power. They say only 275 HP, if that's the gain, sounds good, but not. Good cam, even reworked stock heads and a Explorer/Cobra intake will get you more.

Thanks guys. Im not buying the charger new, im gettin one for 350 hopefully that needs a rear seal. Will i need to do anything about injectors or anything?
thanks

Ok, so im looking to get a powerdyne supercharger i found. the kit is for the fox mustang. they also make a kit for the explorer, but i am buying used. So, the only problem i have found is that the Explorer crank pully is a 5.8" unit which differs from the normal 6.5" unit on the mustangs. This means the pulley on the crank will not line up with the supercharger. What would be the best way around this problem? could i swap to a mustang pulley system? this sounds like a lot of work for such a small problem. Has anyone done this? any suggestions?
thanks

You can not swap to the Mustang balancer and pulley. On the Explorer they are a one piece unit and that's where your crank positioner gets it's signal from. The whole front dress of the Explorer is much closer to the engine. If the pulleys dont line up, it's not a small problem.

So what can be done to use the mustang supercharger?
thanks

I really don't know of a way around it that would be even close to being in-expensive. The driven snout of the blower sticks out too far, right? All of the front brackets are different from the Mustang so I really don't know what other problems you would run into. I sure have to look at what PowerDyne offers for the Explorer but I'd walk away until I knew for sure.
You just want the look of a blower or you looking for some good Power? Best I's say is just slap a CompCam XE264HR-14 and some new valve springs. I've got a bunch of dyno tests that MM & FF did a couple of years ago. Your pocket book has to deside how much power you want.
Dave

No, im looking to make a lot of power and i have a grand to spend. teh supercharger seems like the best option so far. ANy other ideas?
thanks

You want to put a lot of power in, what kind of exhaust manifolds are you using right now? If they are still the stock tube type, pitch them. Those are the worse I've ever seen. Even the later cast iron ones are better but sure not good. A good set of the Torque Monster headers that are good up to 350-380 HP will run you about $790. These are what the stock tube manifolds look like inside.

You've got a good intake and good heads but a lame cam and valve springs. How many miles on the motor?

Just thinking aloud here... If my budget were in that range and I was looking for truly noticeable gains, I'd concentrate on three or four things.
Gears - if you have a 2wd Ranger, all you need to upgrade is one axle. Look for a used axle with better gearing and swap it out. No need to pay a shop to change ring and pinion gearing, just swap the whole rig out.
Cam - Find a cam that lets you push the powerband up another 500 -1000 rpm. No more than that, or you'll hate life most of the time when you are just daily driving around town.
Exhaust - find a used set of headers that flow better than what you've got. This will be noticeable in combination with a good cam.

The big thing you could consider here is a nitrous oxide system. I don't normally like them, but if you do a reasonable shot (say, 50 hp) it's not going to cause world ending chaos to the motor and you could probably do it for years. Even a shot that small is something you WILL feel, and a lot more noticeably than any n/a modifications you could do.

Obviously a forced air system is going to generate more significant gains than anything else you could really do, but it doesn't sound like a supercharger is going to be an easy proposition for you.

Trying to point him in the right direction. Wit the '98' and newer Rangers, only three manifold/headers fit; the stock crappy ones, the discontinued (over three years now and those were just for the "P" heads) FRPP ones and the Torque Monsters.
I had suggested at a earlier post to use the CompCam XE264HR. It has a little bit more lift (.512") but lower duration than the common E-303. What makes it better is the 114 deg LSA, the Explorer computer does not like a tighter one of the E-303 unless you retard the cam 2-4 deg. There is more money. Depending on how much power, going to have to upgrade the injectors and MAF, more money.

my truck already has ford motorsport headers on it. the exhaust is true dual 2.5" with 40 series. I am thinking cam. What else would be good considering the exhaust is already done? I also already have an 8.8 rear with a cobra carrier, posi unit and 3.73s, as well as a tremmec 3550 five speed.
thanks

Go for the cam, sounds like you got the rest of the stuff to support it. Here is a test of what could be called an Explorer motor, got the Cobra intake, same size TB and about the same size MAF. It did have the GT-40 alum heads and used 24# injectors and the E-303 cam See no problem with that cam I mentioned and a set of valve springs that you can't hit 300. I would upgrade to 24# injectors and a matching MAF also.
Dave - got another test with a 306 CI with the stock E7 heads, "P" heads using that CompCam. The "E7" heads were at 306HP and the "P" heads were at 336HP.
