Aloha from Maui,

I picked up a 2001 3.0L Ranger 155k miles.
Cleaned up the battery connectors and removed some sound system wiring from the positive side.
No crank no start, PATS light flashing quickly.
5 chimes, with the slow flash code just giving 1's.... 1-1....1-1.....1-1.....
Story from previous owner was that someone was messing around in the steering column, which makes me thing that they somehow fried the PATS transceiver...
There are 12 volts at the plug for the transceiver, so it has power... There is also power going to fuel pump, so the PCM must be intact.
My question is:
Since the key was working for this vehicle, and the Theft light is flashing fast, does that mean the PATS light is flashing because the transceiver is fried?
They're cheap enough so I'm happy to Amazon a new one and try it out, assuming it just transmits whatever the key chip has on it.
Also, does the key have a battery in it that might just need replacing? I pulled it apart but it looks sealed off with some waterproofing situation.

Any help much appreciated boys!!!

It is very possible, but impossible to be sure with the information you gave us.

I'd probably punt on a transceiver too, since they aren't exactly robust.

There's no battery in the key, the transceiver sends out a small amount of energy that bounces off the transponder chip. No external power source is needed.

I really hope you got the truck dirt cheap...

PATS Error Code 11 does mean there is no transceiver connection to the PATS software inside the PCM(engine computer) in 2001 Ranger

So yes wrecking yard or order new one

But fuel pump should not be coming on, and starter motor should not work if Theft Light is flashing rapidly
Do you think previous owner tried to by pass PATS?

You can add jumpers in the engine fuse box to get fuel pump and starter working, but still won't have fuel injectors so............silly to do that
