On our build there is going to be a section of floor carpet that will need to be patched. A section about 6 inches by 4 inches from mixing carpet from standard to custom placement of auto shifter.

does anyone have any tips on placeing in a large patch of carpet that will be mostly covered by a shifter plate but some of it will be showing at the top.

thanks

When I removed the automatic from my 88 and installed the manual I had a spot about 4 x 3 that was exposed at the back end of the shifter.

I had a nice shiny plate under there but decided to cover the hole anyways...the carpet was the brown colour and I couldn't find any to match so I hacked out a piece from the rear of the cabin (extended cab) and fit it into place.

It covered the hole nicely for ten years...but i also used some really good carpet tape to hold it in place. It eventually came loose with a few removals and whatever..

It can be done with the carpet in place but you can get at it better with it removed.

I would fabricate a handsome metal plate and possibly add some type of small, rectangular box, in case you want to add toggle switches, gauges or maybe an additional power receptacle. Hard to find spaces to mount stuff in Rangers.

hi mark, thanks for the info. yes tape we are figuring will be the best and smooth/fluff it to blend into the section. the carpet will be out of the truck to fix it up.

thanks

Angie, That in one beautiful build! Thanks for the link.
