So I bought a 94 ford ranger yesterday aND toward the end of the day the passanger rear wheel would get stuck and only spin in reverse until it broke free and the I could drive but it blew the clutch doing that and now won't move how can I free that wheel till my new clutch comes also it's a 4x4 94 ford ranger xlt 5 speed

Welcome to TRS :)

Rear brake shoes work best to keep rear wheel from moving forward, but can barely hold it from moving in reverse.

So I would say from your description that the brake shoes on that wheel are stuck open, pushing against the drum, locking forward movement but allowing some reverse movement.

You will need to check both rear wheel brakes
The passenger side drum will be hard to remove, since "brakes are on"
On the back side of the brake plate, lower down there will be a rubber plug.
Pull out that rubber plug, inside the hole will be a "Star Wheel", this adjusts the brake shoes, and can be used to retract the shoes so the drum can be removed.
You need to use two screwdrivers, one to hold out the Star wheel lock bar, and the other to rotate the star wheel

I had an ebrake problem with my 94' ranger a few weeks back, which caused my rear brakes to stick to my drums. This locked my brakes way too easily.

Your best bet is to do as said above, and manually loosen the shoes to allow movement.

Wont be hard at all, but you should bear in mind to check the ebrake lines for signs of being stuck. You will be able to tell just by the line in the rear brakes.

A little lever is pushed against the shoes to restrict movement when the ebrake is on.

I agree with the above. Make sure your E brake cable, linkage and adjusters work properly.

Years ago, I had an '88 F150 with the same drum brake/ e-brake setup as on the '93 Ranger I have now. When the tailpipe rusted out on the F150, I just cut it off. That left the exhaust pointed at the spare tire and E-brake cable and it eventually ruined both from heat and corrosion. My passenger rear brakes stuck "on". I now pay a lot more attention to what my exhaust is pointed at.

Thanks guys also because of the brake being the way it was it blew the clutch (was already on its way out) but how do I get the transfer case out for the 4wd.

Actually you "blew the clutch" rear brakes just rubbed :)

On the other not sure what you mean, Shift into 2WD??
