Parts Missing in My Manual Locking Hub

When attempting to discern why my front wheels were not spinning in 4L or 4H, I discovered that one of my hubs was the wrong size, and the axle shaft was just spinning inside it. I could not believe it. Not only that, but the Axle Shaft Spacers (2 flat washers and a splined washer) and Snap Ring were missing. I ordered new hubs, but I imagine the spacers and snap ring will not come with them. After a full scrub of the web, I have still been unable to find part numbers for these. I've found the part number for the Dana 35 kit (F57Z-3B458-A), which has the washers, but not the snap ring. Not sure why, but the kit for my Dana 28 (I believe) is not existent online. I cant even find the snap ring online either, and don't have a micrometer to possibly source a fitting replacement. I have read a few similar threads on this site and others regarding the same parts and difficulty finding them. Any ideas on where I can find these? I know a junk yard is a possibility albeit a long shot.

Last I knew FORD has the splined washers, but discontinued the C Clip (without those on the passenger side (TTB front ends)The C clip holds the axle out enough to make contact with the hub (there is a slip yoke on that axle). If you still have one on your driverside take it off and try it on your passengerside (no slip joint on drivers side). Otherwise, start hitting the junkyards/pick and pull places. find one that the hubs are still on it. Most places just shoot the clips off and dnt think about them.

I appreciate the heads up BB. I did not know there was no slip joint on the driver's side. The clip is indeed there. Once i get the washers, I'll try swapping sides.

They also make a C clip eliminator for the passenger side axle. It looks like a valve spring and fits inside the slip joint on the axle. it pushes the axle apart (but still allows it to slide). The outer axle is pushed out towards the spindle/hub and makes contact. I have one, but have never used it (I just keep extra C clips). they are suppose to work pretty well. just search for "C clip eliminator" for the Dana 28 (or 35 if you have one).

you might try the clip before installing the new hubs. My guess is your old hub will work like its suppose to.
