I bought a wrecked 99 Ranger from my neighbor to use for parts for my son's 99. I am considering parting out the rest of the truck after I take what I need. Or even better if someone else needed the rest of the parts to do a manual swap or something. The truck is /was a 1999 standard cab stepside 3.0 4X4 with manual trans. Basically what will be left is the cab, both doors, RT fender, hood, front diff, manual trans, transfer case, misc other stuff. I live in Northeastern MD. I am going to try to get the truck to my house next weekend and get the stuff I need out of it in the next couple weeks. I was just trying to see if there was any interest in something like this or if I should just cut it up and keep the extras just in case. I really don't have the room for all the extras though.

Got the donor truck home today. Going to start taking stuff out of it after work and next weekend. Trying to decide if I want to put the manual from the donor in my truck 4R44E (cherry red fluid but sloppy). The manual would probably give us less grief over the long run but looks like alot of work.

looks like she was a sweet truck in her day

A little fiberglass and bondo will fix that right up!:icon_twisted:

Go with the manual swap. I think you'll be happy with the end result and it'll be worth the time invested. All the parts should be there to do it, just swap it over.

How about the driveshafts, one truck is standard cab the other is x cab...are the trannys and transfer cases the same length? WOuld I be able to use my original shafts. The truck was sweet before the accident...has the off roadpackage. Look at the height difference between the 2 trucks. The donor is sitting on 265's mine on 255's. Might swap out the torsion bars to my truck. Too bad the rear springs are junk, rear diff is junk too...it was 8.8 with 4.10.

Question, just went outside and checked the torsion codes on both trucks. The donor truck has FK, mine has BK, so the rear springs should be the same. According to another post on here the B torsion bars are supposed to be better than the F torsion bars....why does the truck with the F bars sit so much higher? Does the "off road" package have different torsion keys or something to make it sit higher? Torsion bars aren't cranked as far as I can tell, there is quite a bit of bolt thread left on the bolt.

Sorry, I assumed both Rangers had the same engine. You mentioned the totalled one had a 3.0, correct? What does the good Ranger have for an engine? If they aren't both 3.0s then the transmission won't swap over because they have different bellhousing bolt patterns.

Both are 3.0's. I am going to use the engine from the donor as it is a REMAN with 5k miles and a warranty. Nothing wrong with my engine just alot of miles. I was wondering about the shafts since standarb cab vs xcab. If the trans is the same length I should be able to use my shafts. Going to try to measure in the next couple days.

the trans with transfer case should be the same length if there is any doubt though a tape measure can tell you within an inch or so. also you would use the driveshaft from the ex cab. it would be a relitivly easy swap as it should all bolt up espically if you are going to pull the motor and replace it with the reman. pull them both at the same time and add your pluming with it out of the car. you will have nto pull the dash in both trucks to get the pedal boxes out but the just unbolt and bolt back up with no problem

Got the trans out tonight. What a pain. You shouldn't have to take off that much BS to get it out. What happened to the good old days where pulling a manual trans was a nothing job?

I feel your pain, I recently took mine out to change a clutch. Did you have trouble with the top and mid-top bellhousing bolts? I found by dropping the rear of the tranny down, taking the wheels off, and lifting the body off the frame a couple inches helped gain access to get the bolts loose and take the tranny out.

I was ok as far as that goes. I did have trouble trying to short cut it really. I didn't realize I had to drop the exhaust (bell housing doesn't clear betwen the Y pipe while it is bolted up, and also doesn't fit between the body and Y pipe when bolted up) Plus, I left the transfer case on and found it was too long to do it that way...by the time I got it back far enough to clear the Y pipe and body it was wedged against the fuel tank, at that point it was too late to try to take the transfer case off since there was no leverage to speak of to get it to come apart. I ended up prying on it all over and bending up the tank shield to get it out. I just wantto get this donor all stripped so I can get it out of the driveway! When it goes in the other truck I will split apart the transfer case and drop the exhaust, etc. I'm going to try to get the dash, column, motor, and anything else worth while off of it by the end of this weekend so I can get the rest of it hauled off!

Do you really have to pull the dash to get the pedals out? How much of a pain is that! Bolts top and bottom I assume? Is there any easy plug in for the dash harness or do I have to pull all the wires? I am going to change out the column too the manual column is different than the auto coulmn, besides the shifter it has the stupid key release button. How do I swap out the lock cylinders? Do I need to change out the harness for the clutch switch, back up lights, etc? If I change out the computer do I have to reset my key remotes and everything?

Pretty much got the donor truck stripped down! There might be a few more things I can take off.

windshield looks good

I keep looking at that windshield! I don't know that I would have the patience to get it out without breaking it.
Cab is pretty decent too with the exception of the rust on the core support. It has a clean Title too!
