Parking lights won't shut off

My 85 rangers light switch is broken, the rod to it pushed through the handle and now I can't get it back in all the way to shut off my parking lights. I have a chilton manual and it says that there is a release knob behind the panels. If anyone has had this problem and could let me know how to fix this it would be extremely appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There is a replacement available for your light switch pull rod. They can be found at most parts places in the "HELP" section that has generic replacement parts.

You will have to remove or at least take loose the instrument cluster to get to the pin release.

I would suggest replacing the switch while you are there as it is a PITA to work on without removing the cluster.

Inspect the plug to the switch and repair any melting of the connections and you should be good to go for a good while.

I found the instrument cluster you were talking about, and I agree it'll definitely make it easier. I'm going to be getting a new one here soon, but in the mean time two wacks with a 1/2 drive socket wrench got it back into place and working splendidly. Other than the fact it's a little busted up. Thanks for the help, hopefully it'll be in at napa tomorrow or the next day
