Parking Brake Stuck To The Floor

So, my parking brake pedal and release lever have always worked half-assed. I would pull the release lever and the pedal would only come up half way needing my foot to pull it up the rest. Oh, and the lever was always kind of wobble anyhow.

My truck has sat for a while with the brake on, and when I pulled the lever, it felt like a soft break and the pedal is stuck to the floor.

My problem is I can get a good enough view of how and why my pedal is stuck to the floor. How can I get it back up??

Also, I disconnected the line from from near the middle of the truck, not from the rear brakes. Should I disconnect it from the rear brake until I get it all fixed??
Thanks for any and all help,

Scott

Hi Scott,

As long as the brake is not engaged you don't have to remove anything at the rear wheels for now...the pedal should come back up if you pull the release and pull up on the brake at the same time...if not...you may need to remove the assembly from under the dash and clean it up and grease it...and perhaps replace the return spring...these can rust out and require replacement...especially if your windshield leaks...

There are three bolts (see other threads on same issue) that hold the pedal assembly to the sidewall on your truck...sometimes the bolts or the retainers rust and that may require more extensive work...on my first truck I had to drill through and rebolt the assembly to hold it on...in a slightly different location...and that worked fine until I had to scrap the truck for other rust issues...like the firewal...

These trucks are notorious for rusting out along the firewall and sidewalls of the cab...but they can also be fixed if necessary...just requires plenty of work...so while you're in there (and it is NOT an easy place to get at) check the floorboards on the driver's side and the door post/side wall for rust...if it's clean you should be OK for a while...

Thanks Mark_88

Much appreciated buddy. I will let you know how that turns out. Thanks for the tips
