I have a 2001 XLT 2.5L with manual transmission. I want to replace all the ebrake cables. How many are there and what's a good brand and part number to use?

Is there one that goes from the front to back, then a left rear, and a right rear?

I'm also not sure if I have 9 or 10 inch drums. I see some parts are different on Rock Auto.

Thanks.

You will need to determine which rear brakes you have first. If the outside of the drums are smooth, you have 10" brakes.

If you have a Supercab or a 7 foot bed, you want the ones for the longer wheel base truck.

Drawing from memory, there are 3 cables, rear left, rear right, and the front cable that runs from the pedal to a connector under the cab on the short wheel base trucks. There is an additional sevtion of cable for the longer wheel base trucks.

If you are have a problem with the brakes freezing or hanging up, it is normally just the back two that are a problem. Either housing has rubbed on something and the protective casing has been compromised, letting water and dirt in or the seals on the end of the cables has failed and is letting dirt and water in.

Brand wise, I haven't noticed one ɓeing any better than the other. The ones I just replaced on my 2011 did have a thinner cable housing compared to the factory ones. So, I had to zip tie the cables to the bracket the cable runs through just behind the bracket that links the two sides together.
