Parking Brake cable

Hey guys,

I have a Ranger that I bought, that is a salvage titled truck, the people that had it modified it. It is a 1990 ext. cab body but the frame has been cut and extended to make it a long bed, which was never made by Ford. Also the axles, tranny, and txfer case are all 1987 ranger parts. Well my dilemma is that since that Ford never made an Ext cab, long bed Ranger, the parking brake cable is too short. Can anyone give me some ideas on how to extend it? Or, possibly know of a cable from another vehicle that would work? It's a manual tranny so I could really use the parking brake...LOL. The ext. cab Ranger has a wheel base of 125" and my modified ext cab Ranger has a wheel base of 133" Thanks in advance for the help.
 
Actually im just going Kick myself there before anyone else does.. (to much homework makeing my brain melt) although a line lock would work for short periods your calipers would HATE you.

LOL....Yeah I thought about that and I have been strongly advised against that. I need something for everyday use. I'm in and out of my truck all day and I will leave it running for short periods of time. So I would like to have my actual parking brake.
 
I have heard of guys using a T-Case brake? I myself dont know much about them but possibly something worth researching? That or maybe check the length of an f150 cable

better case scenario is its to long and you can just re-route for tension
 
I'd use a piece of all thread and then it would also be adjustable.

Something like this (4x4Junkie's B2 setup)...I'd use his method and put in a long piece of all thread to make up the wheelbase extension:

All thread would work well...I was going to suggest something like guy wire and the threaded adjusters they use on them...

That last photo shows a big spring...maybe that's what's missing on my setup...does anyone have a shot of a first or second gen Ranger showing the connection between the front and rear cables???

Don't mean to thread jack but this has been one of those "I will get to it some day" projects...my cables are all fairly new but there is a bit of resistance to it coming back from engaged...so I thought maybe a spring as missing...

Yes I realize that. The first time was in a general post of things that were wrong with my truck. The second time I was actually asking bout a line lock. This time I asked specifically bout the parking brake cable. The other 2 times I didn't get what I needed and no one posted anything else, so I asked again. Now I have a good idea what to do.
 
I went to a hardware store and bought a handful of the u-bolt line screw things(sorry I don't know the official name). Then I cut my p-brake line and used the clamps to hold it together. I was shortening the line so you could use the same premise to lengthen one. The clamps are the ones used to tie together steel cable, generally for fencing. But it works, and I used multiple so that if one fails hopefully the others should still work.

That's a good idea. I may have to do this for now until I can get to a more rural area where I can actually get parts to fix something....LOL...
 
I planned on getting a line made after I figured out the length I needed but this has held up with no issues so far.
