I swapted the stock speakers for a set of 6 x 8 Rockford Fosgates, and now the panels rattle like crazy at a relatively high volume. When I bought the speakers the guy there tried to get me to buy these matts too. He said they were sound deadening. Does anyone know if that will help anything? Because lowering the volume is not an option for me!:headbang:

the sound dead mats (Dynomat) will not do what you are expecting of it.

Try to figure out why your panels are rattling. Are you missing clips to hold them in place? Did some of the tabs break off? Is the speaker cone hitting the grill?

Then you can work toward eliminating the rattle. it may be as simple as a few strategically placed pieces of electrical tape, or as annoying as trying to fix broken retention clips.

Once you figure out what is going on let us know...can probably help more from there.

Well it seems that with the front speakers it depends on if the windows are up or down. With the back (ext cab) sometimes the screws get loose, and after I tighten them they dont rattle. It would seem that they are rattling, at least in the back, because the bigger speaker is rubbing against to inside of the body. I am pretty sure it has to do with the speaker being bigger than the stock 5 x 7. Maybe it is the retention clips then.

sound deadening only deadens the panel you place it on. it just makes the panel less resonant, which in turn makes the interior of your car quieter. you need to find the rattle like vincedia said.

So I am guessing the windows down makes the rattle. Did you put the wrong size speakers in the stock hole? The magnet might be hitting the glass when it's lowered. If that's the case either keep the windows up or change the speakers. Slight chance you can get it to go away by coating the magnet area with electrical tape....only slight chance and don't cover the holes...they are needed for venting.

Now in the rear I don't know what part of the speaker is rubbing....is it the rubber surround on the front or the magnet on the back?

If it is on the front I would make a ring out of 1/4" MDF and use that as a spacer to prevent the cone or surround from hitting the grille on heavy use.
Kinda like these.

If it is the magnet I would change the speakers....that is one deep hole and those speakers are just wrong if they fill all that space...lol

Well I figured out how to fix the back speakers, I just taped up the part that was rubbing against the whole, now they aren't rubbing. (The back of the speakers) You may be on to something with the front speakers, they may be rubbing against the glass. I have a question though...I have aftermarket tint, would the magnet be scratching the tint?

Probably now, even when the window is up there is still a good portion of the glass in the door that would not have been tinted. The speakers might be below that point to be rubbing the tinted glass.

I don't have the inside of the doors stuck in memory so I'm just guessing at this point.

My suggestion would be to open the door panels, roll down the windows and see if it's close.

The other possibility is that there is something loose with the window track, just take off the door panels and have a look around with the radio on...you'll find it.

thanks, i'll do that when i get a chance.

check you grill clearance and get some foam tape.

if you have a window crank, thats whats doing it, eletric tape the knob on the handle so it dont spin or put rubber bands in between the areas on the handle
