What have you used? I ask because they seem to be made of a softer type of plastic like polyethylene? Which very things stick to.

Seems like everyone posts on the general forum I posted the question in the "exterior" section.. it's still sitting unanswered

There's nothing really special you have to use. Sand it down, throw some primer on it, and paint it with whatever you want. Rattlecans can do nicely if you take your time.

I've seen some nice results with paint for plastic in rattle cans. At my boat club there's 3 outdoor steel tables with plastic coating, they were sprayed with a bronze like paint. I painted the cooler tub in my sailboat with white. So I'll give it try sometime soon.

Yes to the sanding and a god coat of primer and then the rattle can. Just take your time. I do know a lot of people who have done it this way and the fenders came out great.

Useing a paint for plastic helps. It's formulated to be flexible like the plastic.

And ditto on prep is key

I recommend Krylon Fusion which is formulated for flexible plastics like fender flares.
