P1506 Idle air control overspeed??

I'm posting for a buddy he has a code P1506 which says idle air control overspeed error. Has anybody else had this code? He was about to just replace his idle air control valve to the tune of $100.00 but just wanted to see if anything else might give this problem code. Thanks

i've had idle air control issues bofore with another truck, all I did was pull it off and clean it up with carb and choke cleaner. What I usually see happening with the IAC valves is carbon building up. I havent exactly figured out what causes it, if anyone knows please inform me.

Common 2.3/2.5 problem.

start the engine, and disconnect the iac. engine should slow or stall. If not, try cleaning.

Take it off, clean with something like B12, install, try again.

I had the same code earlier this year. Mine was shot. After putting almost 30K on the truck this year (Hey, in my defense I did drive from Buffalo NY to Seattle WA) I now have the opposite problem...it idles too low from time to time (low enough to cause the lights to dim). No code yet though.
