I got this code and shortly after my fuel pump failed. I had it replaced and this code reappeared. I was hoping the new fuel pump would fix it but, nope. At this point I am confident it is an electrical issue. I have searched the forum and haven't found anything specific about this other than the problem is electrical. Because this happened prior to the new fuel pump I am sure it not a bad sender. So, I am confident to rule that out.

At this point I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction to troubleshoot this.

Computer has these codes to chose from
P0460 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0461 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
P0462 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Low Input
P0463 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input
P0464 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Intermittent

1989 and up Rangers use these OHMS for fuel level sensor/sender
16 ohms = Empty
168 ohms = Full

So if OHMS were under 16 then P0462
If OHMS were over 168 then P0463
If OHMS were not stable between 16 and 168 then P0461
If OHMS drop to 0 then P0464

So if P0460 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Malfunction
That would mean a disconnected wire, not 0 OHMS just no OHMS at all "circuit malfunction"

At the gas tank with the fuel pump's 2 wires there were 2 other wires, a yellow/white wire that runs to the gas gauge and a Black/orange wire, the senders ground
One if these wires is disconnected

Is there a control module in the line somewhere that could have gone bad? May not be using the correct terminology.

There is an anti-slosh module on the back of the cluster that can fail, but gas gauge wouldn't work, and never read of it setting that code

Gas gauge works fine. I will track the wiring. Thanks for the help.

"I got this code and shortly after my fuel pump failed."

I just read this again. I actually received this code prior to the fuel pump failing. Not sure it makes a difference. Still goes back to a wiring problem.

Thanks...I will check the wiring. My brother borrowed the truck so I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.....He should buy it he borrows it enough.
