p0340???help asap please!!

i have a code on my 1997 ford ranger 3.0 5 speed....p0340..the book says that it is a "Camshaft Position Sensor A-bank 1 circuit malfunction"

\the truck starts up fine runs at idle fine.....really does not bog down to much wile going threw the gears...but it does back fire...it also does not have all the pick up and go that it could have.....i am thinking the timing is off....should i move the cam syncro a tad or something?

There are numerous confirmed case where a Camshaft Position Sensor and assembly have fixed this. Sounds to me like that's what you need to do.

one or the other could be bad, or both. personally if I was replacing one, Id just replace the other as well. little more money, but at least you wont have to worry about it.

Don't be dissapointed.
The 3.0 engine is the best engine Weight to HP to my personal point of view.
You just need to fine tune it.

well i unpluged the cam sencor today and it ran the same way....so looks like i need to change that...but i think i need a 5.5 mm socket...and can you vary the timing by moveing the cam sycro like you can with a distributor?
