Oxygen sensors price

I have a 96 f-150 5.0 My check engine light has been on for a while, i had it checked today and found out i need 3 o2 sensors.
i called auto zone and they wanted between 49.00 -52.00 apiece.
Anybody have an idea if that is a good price? Thanks for any help.

I usually find advance auto cheaper on some things.. O2 sensors are expensive. I doubt you will find them much cheaper.

do you know what code it threw, because a lot of time ppl will scan for codes and get a 02 lean bank 1 and 2 and think the 02's are bad when there's really a vacuum leak causing a lean condition

That price isnt that good. You could get motorcraft brand at rockauto.com for that.

Motorcraft are usually Bosch, which is the same brand you get at most auto stores. I think they recomend to change them at every 60k, being a '96 it is probably due if you haven't done it.

For the price of ONE, you can get it diagnosed correctly.

If you are reading a lean code and assuming it condemns your sensor, you're going to have an unpleasant surprise when you spend $150 and it doesn't fix it. ***NO*** code authoritatively condemns any sensor.

i managed to get 2 brand new ones for 35 bucks cause the guy bought em, never used em, and then he dropped a 302 in his 97, if you ask me, i might have lucked out

x2. I think you need to have the problem diagnosed properly.

If it truly is an oxygen sensor problem, you should be able to narrow it down to one, not just replace all of them.

$26 for my Suburban and it only takes 1. The only reason I changed it was because it was rusted in tight and I was replacing the exhaust. $259 for the Jetta and it has 2.

if its a 95 with 2 cats and a single exhaust he might have 3. 1 before each cat and one after the y-pipe. doesn't OBDII sample before and after the cat?

Yes, but it often (always?) has a separate upstream sensor for the left and right banks, on V-6s or V-8s.

Some late engines have cats for each side as well, along with FOUR oxygen sensors.

There is one in each manifold and one after the cat. But i took a look at it today a little closer and i am pretty sure i have a vac. leak.

In a couple of days i will take the intake off and see for sure.
