Oxygen Sensors - Clarification please?

Correct. That info was copied and pasted from the service manual; I should have removed the part about the MAP since this is a 4.0L.:icon_cheers:

Thanks for all the replies guys!

I took it to shop last night and I got a call this morning.

He says it's the fuel pump, it's only pushing 20lbs.

Anyone know how much it's supposed to be, for pressure?

$278 + tax to have it replaced.

My fuel filler hose is also leaking, I'm having him check that too.

Key On Engine Off 35-45 PSI

Key On Engine Running (At Idle) 28-45 PSI

NOTE: Maximum fuel pressure is obtainable with the vacuum hose removed from the fuel pressure regulator or at Wide Open Throttle (WOT).

The pump is easily replaced once the bed is removed. It's much easier than dropping the tank. You can replace your filler hose then as well -- that's what I did. Ford will quote you an outrageous price for the filler neck; I bought mine on ebay. Do a search for "Ford Ranger fuel filler hose".

Thanks Donnie!

I did get a crazy quote for a new fuel filler hose.

The ones I see on Ebay and that ones I've shopped around for state that they won't work for the "flared" side beds.

Mines a Ranger Splash, with the flared bed sides. I've not been able to find a Ford Ranger fuel filler hose that will fit a flared bed.

Any idea where I can find one, short of being raped by Ford?

Thanks in advance!

Another o2 sensor question

Upstream and downstream refer to if they are before or after the cat, upstream is before, downstream after. If your getting bank 1 and 2 codes, its the upstream sensors. Bank 1 is drivers side o2, bank 2 is passengers side o2. Good luck:icon_thumby:

Does this still hold true?...I am pulling a bank 1 sensor 1 code

WRONG! BANK 1 is passenger's side, BANK 2 is driver's side.

If you are getting codes for O2 sensors in both banks (lean codes) then chances are you have another problem like a vacuum leak that is affecting both O2 sensors, instead of it being the O2 sensors.

^ This is correct.

Upstream is before the cat, called sensor 1.
Downstream or sensor 2 has no effect on how the engine runs, it monitors the cat's performance.

This isn't consistent across different auto manufacturers. On my wife's Lexus SC-430, bank 1 is driver's side, bank 2 is passenger's side.

Well CEL came back on today same gig, bank 1 sensor 1 code so changed passenger side o2 and kept old one. I guess if that is not the right one I will change the other one. I did a little digging and noticed that both upstream o2 sensors are the same so might be part of confusion...I guess I will roll with it...

I don't think there's any ongoing confusion here about which is which, but it makes sense that the parts would be the same type. You do understand that a code doesn't (can't) condemn the sensor specifically, right?

For the most part I get it, however I do have my conspiracy theories, but that is a different thread...o2 is a starting point, it could be a hint of another problem in front of it. 4th code I have gotten and fixed first try so hopefully I can keep the streak up.
