Sorry new here just joined today, I picked up my 2000 Ranger about a month ago and I'm wondering about the overdrive. I checked the manual and I know the truck starts up with overdrive on, I'm wondering in what situation would I turn it off?

Towing and heavy bedloads, mostly.

You could select it off on a long downhill grade to keep from braking as much, but brakes are cheap. Transmissions aren't.

You can get a copy of the Owner's Manual at this link:

Scroll to the bottom.

If you find that you need any electrical schematics, send me a Private Message with an e-mail address. I have a lot of the 2000 EVTM pages ready to e-mail.

Welcome to The Ranger Station!
