my 2010 4l auto trans ranger just stated revving to about 2000rpm at idle in park,1200 or so in drive, about doulble then normal, the check engine light is on,the dealer has done 2 regular services including oil changes, there's only 5600 mi on truck, any ideas? thanks

Dont guess...scan the codes and report the results back to us. Most local parts stores offer scanning free of charge.

check if the butterfly on your throttle body is sticking open or it it is leaking. there is a shaft that goes through hte center of the butterfly and through the side of the throttle body which is the piece that turns to open it up. if there is air coming through there it would give you a higher RPM and light up your engine light because it is false air coming without going through your MAF (mass air flow). try moving around the shaft up and down when it is running nad see if the idol changes. other things could be your O2 sensor or a dirty MAF. but seeing as its a 2010 i doubt the MAF would be dirty. so to sum everything up. try moving around the shaft on your throttle body and see if it makes a difference, and try running some throttle body cleaner through your air intake (take the air hose off the filter and spray through there so it goes through your MAF sensor) post if or if not it solves the problem

Ok,took it to the dealer, they said it was a lose and corroded connection under the truck near the cross member, they cleaned and applied electic grease[so they tell me] When taking truck from dealer it idled a little irratic at first then steadied, check engine light out, drive home seemed to work ok, shut off for a half hour then restarted engine light is back on,idle is ok.Called dealer back they said if light isn't flashing it shouldn't be a problem,i said no way i want the light out,so it's going back monday, i don't trust them at all but we'll see.

Sounds like your dealer is trying to take you for a ride........

I know when I was looking at and bought my 2004 F-150 Super Crew I noticed the rear diff cover was leaking. The salesman told me oh thats ok they all leak.....:icon_surprised:....I was thinking to myself WTF.... easy fix except for the $90.00 for the gear lube I had to get:annoyed:
Hope you get it fixed.
