just bought a 91 ford ranger 4.0 v6 4x4, yes another one like the 4th one ive had, this time as a rebuild project to teach my nephew a bit about motors. it over heated and theres water in the oil, the water drains straight from the radiator to the oil, and its cream colord, not sure if the heads are cracked or warped. but was wondering if any 1 might have suggestions to why it over heated in the first place. it was only drove like 3 miles after the first over heat then it over heated agin and they towed it home it sat for about a year, thats wen i bought it, ive been told that if the water drained into the oil it means my water pump?.. didnt freeze up? i guess is how the mechanic told me, idk hes a back yard mechanic

Do a pressure test on the cooling system to give you some idea where it's leaking, perhaps a leakdown test also.
