I got a 86 Ranger, 2.9, 5 speed manual 4x4. The output shaft on the transfercase is starting to dance around alittle and I am on the edge about replaceing the hole thing instead of fixing it. What's everybody's suggestion for a bolt on, stock or not, replacement. It's a truck used primaraly for fire wood retreval so the suspention is very heavy duty but no articulation if that helps. She see's a lot of time in the woods and is frequently in 4 low blazing the way for the rest of the group. Just looking for any suggestions.
Thanx in advance,

the front output shaft? yeah, mine's doing the same thing, to the point I can't drive on the highway with the hubs locked...

I'm going to replace mine with a 1354 version out of an explorer when I swap front axles, they have a fixed front output so the slip splines are in the shaft not the case... the problem is the driveshaft needed to put this on might be too short with your stock front axle, so keep your eyes peeled in the junk yard for rangers that say STX on the rear of the bedsides, they are likely to have a version of the transfer case that you have with the front axle you have that has a fixed front yoke and the splines in the shaft, you would need the case and front shaft to swap it into your truck

Thanx peep's, I was planning on swapping out the front to the D35 and the back to an 8.8 any ways this summer. I've been reading around and from what I see the only thing to worry about is adjusting the transfercase properly. Like I said I really work the hell out of this truck and it's been great with very, very little problems. If any body else has any suggestions I still open to any thing as long as I don't have to fab anything for the transfercase. :icon_hornsup:
