I sold my first Ranger yesterday, and in preparation for the next Ranger (wouldn't of sold my first if I didn't have a second lined up :P ) I am ordering a full sound system, as detailed below:

Head unit- Boss 825CA
Speakers (2 pair)- Powerbass S-682 6x8 2-ways
Amp- Powerbass ASA-800.2x 2 channel
Subs (2)- Kicker CompVR 07CVR124 12-Inch 4-Ohm DVC

Total cost- $525.58

Gonna wire the subs to 2 ohm as that lovely amp is 2 ohm stable, and I already have the odds and ends for a wiring kit, so that's out of the way.

Whats everyone think?

looks like a nice little system, you might upgrade your HU down the road, as you out grow it. but it look ok.

well, I'm working somewhat within a budget, my main "I will deffinitely buy THIS exact thing" purchase is the amp and subs combo.

I mainly picked out that headunit because I've had Boss stuff before, last system was a Boss PH2.800 and 2 boss flat 10's and they worked pretty damn well considering how tiny they were. Secondarily I figured it was a good price and to me it looks good, I do hate an ugly head unit, since you gotta look at them more than all the time. It won't be powering those Powerbass speakers to full rms, but that'd be the only reason why I'd upgrade later. Or I could fix that with a second small 4 channel amp. But that'd probably require I get a cap as well.

Just out of curiosity, how much are you paying for that headunit?

sony makes ok hu's. you can get them at wally world for like 80 bucks just something to think about.

I paid 64 bucks for the Boss HU, and I could of gotten one of the same series with more feature (that i wouldnt of used) for about 20ish more.

Stuff is officially ordered :D i love gettin packages full of awesome stuff in the mail. gonna go get an estimate cost for a pro built box in a bit.

Should be a nice system. I wish my ranger had room for a sub... Tried fitting a 12" in my reg cab and took it out because the box made the passenger seat sit waaay too far up and it didnt even sound worth it lol. But i got the money i spent on it back easily.

Myself, i wouldnt get a real expensive HU. I dont feel like spending a whole bunch of cash on it when ive never had a problem with my 50Wx4 Kenwood. If anything i would just add a nice 4 channel amp later on. But i always make sure i have good brands for it. Wouldnt even consider buying WalMart brands...

*cough* Xplodes *cough* :c-n:

They are called Xplode for a reason lol.

Current problem, which because it pisses me off and I need an answer I shall make a separate question thread, does anyone know what HU mounting kit will fit a '94 ranger?

Walmart had 2 kits for Fords, one only listed '83-'88 Rangers, and the other kit listed no ranger, but a '95-'08 B series and it didn't look like it'd fit anyways.

GAH!

im not a fan of anything boss. for HUs i always go with Pioneer or Alpine...I need 4v RCA outputs and those are the easiest to find around me. and you wouldnt need a capacitor if you add a 4 channel amp. may would need to do BIG 3 but Caps are worthless

I went with Boss because I like the style, features (basicly the touch function), price, and because the last Boss stuff I had treated me really well. Also my friend, who is much more knowledgeable about audio equipment that I am, said it's a good buy for the money.

Tho later on I do want to get a Boss 4 channel amp to power the 4 speakers to their full rms.

Side question- what else would I need besides the amp to accomplish this? I'm sure its a simple answer, but my brain hasn't woken up yet.

Just a wiring kit and the simple tools every house has to make things happen. (Possible a drill, hammer, screw driver etc)

More I was asking because I'm assuming I'd need a capacitor because 2 amps would be pulling off my battery, and also I'd obviously not have the bass boost knob hooked up to the speakers' amp, but I'm assuming thats adjustable via the headunit like it normally is without an amp. I've never had amp powered speakers, just subs.

don't buy a cap if anything put an explorer alternator in there

I'm gonna get an Interstate Mega-Tron II battery for it too. The second amp/battery/possible alternator upgrade would be a little later tho. Cash is running thin.
