so yesterday i was giving a friend a hand working on his jeep scrambler, its got the straight 6 in it, i drove it around for a bit and was actually impressed with the engine tranny w/ the Dana 300 setup, he only has like 3.55's for gears as well...

any of you ever throw a straight six in your RVB?

i was impressed with the low end torque....

although it did sway me a bit from ever doing a front end leaf swap. ride was crap. lol

The little motor has been around for so long but it's the one that made Jeeps "Ledgenary'. I'd have bought another one to replace my Cherroke but they came out with that liberty. Jeep lost a lot of buyers with that move. Never a bit of trouble in 140K miles, ride was never a concern of mine.

lol to be honist it made my 3.0 and tranny/tcase combo look like crap! ahaha. made me wanna just make the old ranger with jeep guts.

i plan on sticking a 300 I6 inmy ranger truggy when the 2.3 gets tired :D

theres allot of heeps out there, i wonder what a I6 with tranny and dana 300 would run cost wise? i hear you can buy um all souped up and stuff

The 4.0 I6 found in jeeps is an excellent platform. As well as the 300 TC. Personally, I would rather swap a 302 in if I am gonna do the work. If I already had a Jeep with an I6 that would be another story. The D-300 and BW-1354 cases will soon be able to be mated together, a kit is being made by DD Machines. And with the option of installing an ultra low kit in the 300, it would make for an awesome doubler set up. I dont know much about the Jeep transmissions, except for there are good and bad, same as any other manufacturer.

The aftermarket support for the drivetrain of a Jeep however is a huge benefit. I would love a stroker kit for an I6. That would be nice. Really, it comes down to how much work you are willing to do and what you want the end result to be. Like I said, if I were to upgrade to more power, I dont see the 4.0 I6 as being a wise choice since its only a few pony's and the amount of work the install would cost. I see a V8 or forced induction as a much wiser and better use of my time and money.

It would be a cool swap however.

If you are going to do all the work on a swap, put a V8 in it. You'll have a lot more support from advance adapters and etc. due to the fact it has been done before. Please don't push a ranger halfway over to the dark side!!!!

bahahah i know right, the DARK side!! oooooo!! , im not a jeep fan at all. but i was impressed by the scrambler i drove, as far as drive train and engine setup. thats sweet about the kit for the dubbler! i would be intrested in that conversion.

and yes! all of you are right about the v8 swap over the I6, however it seems like allot do the v8 swap.....
but the more v's the better ahahah.

any idea when this kit will be produced?:D:icon_welder:

youd be suprised how much easier it would be to but a 302 in a ranger than a jeep drivetrain. i had fun doin my 302 swap. all i needed was the donor veh(99mountaineer that was rolled), a couple junk yard rangers, explorers, and bII's for misc parts and i had everything i needed.
