I'm considering buying a 1988 Ranger 2.3 w/ a M50DR-1 trans for a transplant into my 1933 ford pickup. I have read a lot of useful info on this site. What I am not sure of is whether or not the trans will be a good choice to use in this project? I could go with a Mustang '85-'90 w/ a T-5 but have a sweet deal on this '88 Ranger. Is the trans OK to commit to a project like this or should I hold out for something else. Would much appreciate any thoughts on this subject.

Thanks A lot

what?

are you taking the engine and trans, are you just trying to take the transmission, what engine is in the 33?

Those details will help us figure this out.

also....

The M5ODR-1 is a stout little gearbox. You'd only want to use the T5 if you were going to put loads of torque & power to the wheels.

Sorry I was not more clear. I plan to use both engine and trans. from either a Ranger or Mustang. It seems that the Rangers are more available in my area and a little less expensive.

Ok, yeah. That would work. The 2.3 probably has more power than the original engine did anyway.

I still hold to my original declaration of :worthless:

You should start up a build thread dude.

let's just say I have a M5OD behind my 2.3L turbo engine and it survives so far... about 25k miles worth of 10-15psi speed shifts and it still feels fine, did I mention the tranny has about 230k miles on it at this point?
