Hey all! Tonto is almost complete... At least complete enough to wheel... He will never be done.

Question: I've got the stock 2.9, FM145 and 1350 combo with a D60 out back and a 44 up front. I wanted to weld the rear end but I'm worried about breaking all the tiny parts in front of it. What do you guys think? Will I toast the case or the tranny? U joints? I should mention that I'm running 36's and 4.10's. Also, what would it take to upgrade tranny and tcase? I know M5OD and 1354 but what else? Thanks!

Putting bigger, stronger parts in just moves the stress back along the line. Heavier duty axle shafts - diff - driveshaft (joints) - t case - trans -and so on. I highly doubt you're pushing anything too hard for the t-case or for the trans but I don't know how you play. U-joints may go eventually but that setup shouldn't catastrophically fail. I would personally want more engine behind those tires but that's just me.

I don't play hard unless necessary! I'm the guy who just wants to do trails without worry, you know?

Believe me, I want more under the hood too but after a year of the axle swap and what not I'm just ready to go play!

Glad to hear that I should be ok with the welded rear end. Any other opinions?

Sounds like a pretty good setup. The only thing I could see taking a beating would be the clutch, but if you go easy on it you should be ok.

Oops, I messed up my transmission codes. That's going to eat your clutch roughly 20% faster. (Yes I just pulled that number out of my ass - but roughly around there IME)

5.13 gears would be a lot better for everything ahead of the axles than 4.10s.

Your next likely failure is the trans.
