Opinions on this engine?

I would buy that in a heartbeat. Pretty good price for the mileage. You will run into problems though, you need a 99-01 for your ranger. The 98 has PATS and return style fuel system (you need returnless)...

Think I would be an idiot for buying this?

Nope, thats not why you're an idiot. :thefinger:

Seriously, I'd jump on it. At that price, you cant lose. Worst case scenario, you part it out and make a profit off it.

I'd buy it.

You'll get a lot of parts you can use, for a good price. If nothing else, there are a lot of extra parts you can resell. Who knows - maybe make back your purchase price!

I was just thinking that if it is just the starter, might just be great as is. Give you a DD while your Ranger would be down, if you are swapping. Like said, great potention for parts.

Yeah, that's true... I forgot about the PATS aspect of it.. Wouldn't it work if I changed everything over though?

And yeah, that's what I figured... Part it out and make a lot of my money back.

Get the Explorer, get the parts in, we will make the PATS work.

Hmmm... Tempting. But I'd personally rather a running one... The not starting issue could be a numberless amount of things wrong...

My bet is probably the inertia switch from the wreck. You can always go check it out before you buy...

Be sure to mention--"If this works? Please do not jack the price up"

I'd second that, but if you fixed it that easy they may keep it. I know if I found one for that price around here I'd buy it in a heart beat. It'd be the donor for the next swap into my 99 4x4. Probably a good thing I can't find a donor like that. What would I do with 2 V8 Rangers?

EDIT: If you buy it and part it I call dibbs on the steering wheel and cruise control switches.

I've got 2 V8 rangers...kind of (sport Trac). I want to build another. Turn the key on, if you don't hear the fuel pump kick on, its the inertia switch, hand him the cash. When he hands you the title, reset the switch and drive it on the trailer. I've done that twice :D

I owned a 98 Explorer and sometimes the Alarm would trip out and the thing wouldn't crank unless you held the valet button down while you turned the key. I'd buy it and fix it whatever is wrong.

I'd probably do that. lol once the title is in my hands and I give him the cash, I'd fire it right up. I forgot about the inertia switch... I could only imagine the look on his face when I fire it up and drive off with it...:icon_rofl:
