I would like opinions from people who have T5's in their Rangers. Since the T5 shifter sits further back than the original Ranger shifter, does it feel awkward? I have been trying to decide between a T5 or a Tremec with the mid shift option.

I had one in my 86 ranger, it was ok. The only part that was different was going into reverse fast. I had a bench seat at the time.

You can do the S-10 Tailshaft swap to put the shifter where it is supposed to go.

This is my setup on the WC T-5 4X4.

As I understand it, my T-5 transmission is not from a Mustang, but instead it is for a JEEP. The Advanced Adapter's transfer case adapter requires you to remove the tailshaft of the T-5 and replace it with their adapter in order to bolt it up to the Bronco II Borg Warner transfer case. The T-5 from the mustang will not work with the Advanced Adapters transfer case adapter because it uses a Willys tail shaft.

The bolt pattern for the shifter is different. I tried to install a Pro-5 short shifter from Mustang, and I had to make an adapter plate, and make a longer shifter rod. The adapter plate is 3/4" thick.

I made the shifter handle in my machine shop. It which pivots on its own axis and uses a connecting rod to reach the Pro 5 shifter. This setup eliminated a very long shifter handle, which would have been necessary to reach my hand if I had mounted it directly to the transmission.

The beauty of this system is that you can place the shifter handle anywhere you want it, make it any height, and control the length of your shift throws.

Shifts are very short (about 1"), and the shifter has stop bolts so you can slam the shifts without putting pressure on the transmission gears or shifter fork.

Lowering the connecting rod on the shifter handle will lengthen the shift throw.

Sorry for about the link but I cannot get the image to show up on the forum.

i got one, i got the 60/40, all i had to do was cut out the hole back towards the seat like 7 more inches if that, with a hurst shifter on it it doesnt hit, it feels pretty good. the only thing is when i go into 3rd and 5th i have to lean forward a touch because the shifter is so short. so ill prob end up makin a longer one. if u look in my sig there is a sit with a pic in it of the shifter in the truck.

Why go through all of that, when you can just swap in a S-10 tail housing?

It's a VERY simple operation.
